District-wise Hydrogeological Data Compilation along Haryana and PUnjab: A Ground-Level Stratigraphic Dataset Author: GemsOfINDOLOGY ™ORCID: 0009-0008-5130-3614 (https://orcid.org/0009-0008-5130-3614)Date: May 2026Type: Dataset / Work in ProgressKeywords: CGWB, borewell, stratigraphy, alluvium, hydrogeology, palaeochannel, Haryana, Rajasthan, groundwater Abstract This record establishes an ongoing systematic compilation of district-level hydrogeological data drawn from Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) ground water information booklets covering districts along the Haryana and Punjab. The dataset aggregates borewell depths, alluvium thickness, aquifer transmissivity, slope gradients, water table elevations above mean sea level, and palaeochannel references from primary CGWB sources. The compilation is ground-level and lithographic in methodology, relying on borehole logs, exploratory well data, and stratigraphic descriptions recorded in CGWB district booklets. Data extraction follows a structured protocol applied uniformly across districts. Fields captured per district include: maximum recorded alluvium thickness (metres), borewell depth range, aquifer discharge rates (lpm), transmissivity (m²/day), storativity, pre- and post-monsoon water table depth (mbgl), water table elevation (metres amsl), terrain slope gradient (m/km), annual and monsoon rainfall, bedrock type and depth, geological formation age, and water quality parameters. Data Sources Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India — District Ground Water Information Booklets (various years, 2000–2020) RTI responses filed with CGWB, state groundwater departments, and related bodies Geological Survey of India (GSI) district reports where available All source documents are Government of India public domain publications. Methodology Note Data extraction is systematic and repeatable. A structured extraction protocol identifies the following fields from CGWB booklets: stratigraphy descriptions, borewell logs, aquifer parameters, terrain gradient, and palaeochannel or Ghaggar references. Ambiguous or incomplete entries are flagged rather than estimated. This approach — building a corridor-wide subsurface profile from ground-level borehole records — has not previously been attempted in a consolidated, publicly accessible dataset for the Ghaggar-Saraswati alignment. Status Work in Progress. Dataset compilation ongoing. This record establishes the project's existence, methodology, and scope as of the date of upload. Interpretive findings will be published separately upon completion of the dataset. How to Cite Gemsofindology, (2026).
