Meta-data: Adult tree: An adult tree of same species (eastern white pine) Dbh: diameter at breast height measured in cm Canopy coverage: 0 - cannot see the sky from the canopy coverage 1 - can see a little bit of the sky from the canopy coverage 2 - can see the sky pretty clear from the canopy coverage Distance: distance from one tree to another measured in meters Methods:Participants: York University students from 2050 Ecology class Day and time: September 21st, 2016, between 3-4pm Location: York University woodlot, 200-300m away from Aviva Centre. The study site had different tree species located in very close proximity to each other. Dataset: Collected dataset for ten randomly selected adult trees of eastern pine. Any eastern pine tree that was at least twice my own height (my height is 5’2) was considered to be an adult tree. Transect measuring tape was used to record the distance between two adult trees of eastern pine. Regular measuring tape was used to measure the diameter at breast height for each tree. Canopy coverage was studied for each sampled tree, by creating a square with my fingers and holding it up to examine how much sky was still visible.

本次共采集10株随机选取的东部白松成树的相关数据。成树判定标准为:树高至少为研究者本人身高(5英尺2英寸)的两倍。使用样带卷尺记录两株东部白松成树间的间距,使用普通卷尺测量每株树木的胸径。冠层覆盖度通过以下方式测定:用手指搭建方形框架,举至眼前以观测可见天空的占比,据此为每株采样树赋予冠层覆盖度等级。
