NRS-12179 | Petitions concerning freedom of choice between butter and table margarine

These consist of two volumes, a manuscript petition signed by 3,734 electors in New South Wales (19/18353), to the Premier of New South Wales, and photostat copies of petitions signed by shopkeepers in Victoria and South Australia (19/18354), which were originally presented to the Premiers of those States.The petitioners requested that the Premier "announce immediately the decision of his Government to remove all quota restrictions on table margarine" as it was felt that the quotas on table margarine production were limiting the choice of the Australian people between food products, particularly the members of the community on lower incomes and those who consumed table margarine for health reasons.The petitions comprise the occupation, address and signature of each petitioner.(19/18353-54). 2 vols.Note: This description is extracted from Concise Guide to the State Archives of New South Wales, 3rd Edition 2000.
