Benzotriazoles as a new tracer of anthropogenic impact in geographically distributed freshwater ecosystems - database

The file contains two worksheets. The first worksheet (“Data description”) provides detailed explanations of the sampling site codes (NO1–NO6, IS1–IS7, IE1–IE6, LK1–LK5), including site location, environmental setting, sample type (e.g. road runoff, lake water, glacial meltwater, reservoir water), geographic coordinates and contextual characteristics necessary for data interpretation.
The second worksheet (“Data”) contains measured concentrations of selected benzotriazoles (BTRs: 1H-BTR, 4Me-BTR, 5Me-BTR, 5Cl-BTR) and benzotriazole-based UV stabilizers (BUVs: UV-P, UV-326, UV-327, UV-328, UV-329) in samples collected in 2020–2024 from 24 sites in Svalbard (NO), Iceland (IS), Ireland (IE) and Sri Lanka (LK). All concentrations are reported in ng/L. The symbols “n.d.” and “n.t.” denote values below detection/quantification limits and compounds not tested, respectively.
The dataset supports comparative analysis of BTR/BUV occurrence across diverse climatic regions and land-use types, and facilitates interpretation of anthropogenic contamination pathways in freshwater systems.
