Leadership -- not followership -- determines performance in ant teams

Dataset for the paper, 'Leadership -- not followership -- determines performance in ant teams' by Richardson, Coti, Stroeymeyt & Keller, Communications Biology, 2021, in press. Description of 'Tandem_running_emigrations_1-5.txt' : A dataset recording the occurrence of tandem runs, occurring within the context of colony emigration by the ant Temnothorax nylanderi. The identity of the leading and following ant are given by the 'leader' and 'follower' columns. The start and end time of each tandem run are indicated by the time columns. The location of the nest from which the tandem departs, and at which it arrives (if successful) are given by the columns, 'Leaves_From' and 'Arrives_at'. Whether the tandem pair succeeded in travelling all the way to the new nest without breaking up, is denoted in the 'Success_or_Fail_or_Switch' column. Tandem runs in which the identity of the following ant changed during the run are also indicated in the 'Success_or_Fail_or_Switch' column. The location of the break-up (if any) is contained in the X and Y columns. The data in this file is analysed in Figure 1 in the main paper. Description of files, 'Per-tandem_task_switching ... csv' : These two files give the per-tandem switching probability data data analysed in Figure 2 in the main paper. Description of files, 'Colony_mean,... csv' : These three files contain the colony means for each of the three performance metrics, as used in Figure 3c-e in the main paper. Description of files, 'Multi-model_inference, ... txt' : These three files each contain a table listing the mixed models in the 95% confidence set. There is one file for each of the three performance metrics. The predictors in the model are specified in teh 'Model' column, using the common formula notation common in S+ and R. The 'weight', 'cumulative weight' and 'Evidence ratio' are used to produce the barplots shown in Figure 4 in the main paper. Description of files, 'Removal_list,remove_......txt' : Contains a list of individuals that were removed from the colony between the fourth and fifth emigrations. See the descriptions in the paper for further details.
