Assistance fraud; fraud cases, amounts of fraud, characteristics, 2002-2008

The table provides insight into the number of assistance fraud cases detected and the number of households concerned. The table also provides insight into the amounts involved in the aid fraud cases detected and the arrangements to which the fraud relates. Data is also presented by classes of fraud amounts. The data are broken down into the following characteristics: — scheme; — amount of fraud; — municipal size class; — region (provinces). Data available from the first half of 2002 to 2008. Status of the figures The figures from 2002 to the 1st half of 2008 are final. The figures for the 2nd half of 2008 and the 2008 annual figures are provisional. As this table has been discontinued, these figures are no longer definitive. Changes as of 30 April 2012 None, this table has been discontinued. When will there be new figures Not applicable. The Aid Fraud Statistics (BFS) only contains data on alleged fraud cases that have been investigated and registered by the Dutch municipalities. Making statements on the total amount of assistance fraud committed is not possible on the basis of this file. In order to rule on the total amount of fraud detected, the BFS was supplemented by data from the Assistance Debtor Statistics (BDS). Research has shown that this supplement does not reflect the correct picture of the total fraud.
