A survey of 67 cutaneous and 14 subcutaneous Australian canine mast cell tumours (MCTs) for variants within the KIT gene exons and non-coding domains (upstream, downstream, splicing, and untranslated regions). DNA was extracted from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) MCT blocks. DNA libraries were constructed using the Ion AmpliSeq protocol for two primer pools and sequenced by the Ion Torrent PGM Ion Chef System. Data were aligned to CanFam3.1 canine chromosome 13 reference sequence (NC_006595.3). Variants were identified using GATK HaplotypeCaller software and filters were applied based on GATK best practice. Clinical and survival data were collected for the dogs from which the MCTs were excised.
