Whole genome sequence of Streptococcus troglodytae. Streptococcus troglodytae strain:TKU 31

Chimpanzee is the most closely related species to the human, therefore, to study the comparison of the human and chimpanzee could be an important for considering the future evolution of the human. The mutans group streptococci, such as Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sobrinus, have been implicated as major cariogenic bacteria in human. We have isolated a novel species, Streptococcus troglodytae, which is the most closely species related to the S. mutans, from the chimpanzee oral cavities. The aim of this study is analysis the genes of this organism to gain insight on basic biology, evolutionary history and pathogenesis of this bacterium.
