In this experiment, we sought to characterize transcriptional changes in response to thyroid hormones (TH)stimulation in Eleutherodactylus coqui stage 9 larva. Even though E. coqui is a direct developper and development occurs in ovo, this development stage is equivalent to Xenopus premetamorphic stages. Metamorphosis is a life cycle transition that marks the post embryonic transition and the resorption of larval characters (including tail). In Xenopus, TH treatments recapitulates the endogenous surge of hormone that trigger metamorphosis. The question asked is whether similar processes govern (in ovo) tail resorption in E. coqui. This also contributes to generate functional genomics data useful for genome annotation.
