The data was collected to understand the skills and knowledge needed by Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal social workers who are experienced and well-regarded by Aboriginal communities and their experience in social work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The research questions that this data aimed to answer were: - how do Aboriginal social workers work with Aboriginal people and communities? - how do non Aboriginal social workers work with Aboriginal people and communities? - what do both groups of workers recognise as being culturally sensitive and appropriate social work practice? A qualitative methodology was adopted, which resulted in data being gathered by means of an open ended questionnaire, individual face to face and telephone interviews, and one group interview. Data collected: digital recording and MSWord documents and transcripts for 19 interviews. Data collected by: Dr Joanna Zubrzycki), Violet Bacon (at the time academic staff University of Western Australia) and Bindi Bennett (at the time social work practitioner in New South Wales).
