Options for improving biodiversity in the paddock in the Yarra Yarra catchment

This project will set up 2 biodiversity corridor demonstration sites, strategically placed to address a range of environmental issues, including increasing connectivity and biodiversity, wind protection to maintain healthy soils and reduced recharge to reduce the risk of salinity. Community engagement will be a key component of the project via a series of workshops highlighting the fundamental ecosystem services provided by the environment, plus a bus tour of the Yorta Yorta catchment to highlight examples of how sustainable environmental outcomes can be achieved alongside sustainable farming outcomes. This tour will incorporate the project sites and other sustainable environment projects that have been established in the region over the past 5 yrs.

本项目将设立2个生物多样性廊道（biodiversity corridor）示范站点（demonstration sites），通过科学布局以应对多重环境议题：包括提升生态连通性与生物多样性、实施防风措施以维持土壤健康，以及减少地下水补给以降低土壤盐碱化风险。社区参与是本项目的核心组成部分，具体举措涵盖两类活动：一是开展一系列工作坊，阐释环境所提供的基础生态系统服务（ecosystem services）；二是组织约塔约塔（Yorta Yorta）流域巴士研学之旅，展示可持续环境效益与可持续农业效益协同达成的实践案例。本次研学之旅将涵盖本项目站点，以及该区域过去五年内已建成的其他可持续环境项目。
