Monthly traction energy consumption (with distribution)

Total traction energy consumption per month in MWh since 2009 with breakdown between passengers, HST and freight and and breakdown between regions Producers produce electricity in power stations. The electricity is transported at a high alternating voltage, reaching Infrabel's traction substations. These substations convert the voltage and distribute it via the overhead contact line. Via pantographs, trains can draw the necessary electrical energy to power electric locomotives and/or railcars and comfort services for passenger trains such as heating, lighting and air conditioning.
