<sup>Effective communication between the members of the healthcare team and the patient and families are essential components for patient-centered care, it improves patient outcomes. Likewise, poor communication between healthcare team members and the patient and families is associated with poor patient outcomes. Due to several communication challenges, the use of visual tools such as bedside whiteboard to enhance communication has been widely implemented; however, the exact benefit of its use from patient perspective is still understudied. Thus, this study aims to determine the impact of bedside whiteboard use in facilitating patient’s involvement to achieving goal the day’s goal, adherence to pain medication schedule and use, tests and procedures schedule, patients and family engagement with the healthcare team, and discharge planning. This study is a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted among 335 patients and/or family members admitted in six hospitals in Makkah city: Al Noor hospital, Hera hospital, King Abdul-Aziz hospital, King Abdullah Medical City, King Faisal specialist hospital, and Maternity and Children hospital. The survey questionnaire used was adapted from previous studies and revalidated to ensure its suitability to the study subjects. Data collection was performed from August 1 to 31, 2020 and data analysis was done with SPSS software. Of the 335 participants, majority were satisfied to bedside white board for its use (4.36), and they recommend it to be used in hospitals because they perceived that through this medium of communication, their connection with the healthcare team will be easier (4.35). In regression analysis, the day’s goal and patient and/or family engagement are found to be the significant predictors of patient’s satisfaction level. Therefore, whiteboard is a useful tool to help patients achieve their daily goals and to improve their engagement with the healthcare team which also impacts on patient satisfaction. This study was approved by the Institutional Review Board of King Abdullah Medical City, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. All patients and relatives who agreed to participate in the online survey, completely filled-in and submit the survey questionnaire was accepted as implied consent. All information. Data entered into the Microsoft Excel®️ and SPSS was coded and rendered anonymous as to patient identity. All collected information relative to the patient's identity is considered confidential.</sup><br>
医疗团队成员与患者及其家属之间的有效沟通,是以患者为中心的照护(patient-centered care)的核心构成要素,可改善患者预后(patient outcomes)。反之,医疗团队与患者及家属间的沟通不畅,则与不良患者预后密切相关。鉴于当前存在多项沟通挑战,床头白板(bedside whiteboard)这类可视化沟通工具已被广泛应用以强化沟通效果,但从患者视角出发,其实际获益仍未得到充分研究。因此,本研究旨在评估床头白板的使用对促进患者参与完成当日目标、遵守镇痛药物给药方案与用药规范、落实检查与操作预约、提升患者及家属与医疗团队的互动参与度,以及优化出院计划等方面的影响。本研究为描述性横断面研究,研究对象为沙特阿拉伯麦加市6家医院的335名住院患者及/或其家属,这6家医院分别为:努尔医院(Al Noor Hospital)、赫拉医院(Hera Hospital)、阿卜杜勒-阿齐兹国王医院(King Abdul-Aziz Hospital)、阿卜杜拉国王医疗城(King Abdullah Medical City)、费萨尔国王专科医院(King Faisal Specialist Hospital)以及妇幼医院(Maternity and Children Hospital)。本研究使用的调查问卷改编自既往研究,并经过重新效度验证,以确保其适配本研究的研究对象。数据收集于2020年8月1日至31日完成,数据分析采用SPSS统计软件开展。在335名参与者中,大多数对床头白板的使用表示满意(平均得分4.36),并推荐在医院中推广该工具——参与者认为,通过这一沟通媒介,其与医疗团队的沟通将更为顺畅(平均得分4.35)。回归分析结果显示,当日目标完成情况及患者/家属的互动参与度是影响患者满意度的显著预测因子。因此,床头白板是帮助患者达成每日目标、提升其与医疗团队互动参与度的有效工具,同时亦可对患者满意度产生积极影响。本研究已获得沙特阿拉伯麦加阿卜杜拉国王医疗城机构审查委员会(Institutional Review Board)的批准。所有同意参与在线调查、完整填写并提交调查问卷的患者及家属,其参与将被视为已获得默示同意。所有采集的数据均录入Microsoft Excel®及SPSS软件,已对患者身份信息进行编码并匿名化处理。所有与患者身份相关的采集信息均将被严格保密。
