Color Preference of Damby Woodlot/Grassland Insects

In collaboration with a partner, pan traps were set in groups of three different colors (white, blue and yellow) in both the grassland and woodlot areas of Damby Woodlot of York University. The traps were set at 3pm and data was not collected until 4pm of the same day to ensure an appropriate amount of time was given for the experiment. Data was collected on September 28th 2015 on a cloudy, damp and humid day. Beginning from the middle of both areas, locations of the traps were determined by a random number generated by Excel and they were placed in groups of the three different colors in order to determine if the insects preferred a certain color over another. Three normal groups along with one control group consisting of two pan traps (white and blue) was set in both settings; twenty-two pans were used in total. Data was collected after one hour by using sieve; the number of total insects and total rtus were collected per individual pan, colors of the pans were noted as well. The experiment was conducted in order to determine if insects prefer the color yellow over other colors.

本研究与合作方协作，在约克大学（York University）达姆比林地（Damby Woodlot）的草原与林地生境中，布设了三组不同颜色（白色、蓝色与黄色）的盘式诱捕器（pan traps），诱捕器于当日下午3时布设，为确保实验有充足的作用时长，直至当日下午4时才启动数据采集工作。实验数据采集于2015年9月28日，当日天气为阴天且空气潮湿，采样点位从两个生境的中心区域起始，通过Excel生成的随机数确定诱捕器的布设位置，每组均布设三种颜色的诱捕器以探究昆虫对特定颜色是否存在偏好，两种生境中均设置了3组常规实验组与1组对照组，对照组由2个盘式诱捕器（白色与蓝色）组成，本次实验总计使用22个诱捕盘，布设1小时后采用筛网完成样本收集，记录每个诱捕盘内的昆虫总数与rtus总数，并标注诱捕盘的颜色，本实验旨在探究昆虫是否相较于其他颜色更偏好黄色。
