WK4: Dataset 5-Bird Sighting

The data for Laboratory conducted on September 28,2015 was collected from 2:30pm to 5:30 pm at the Danby grassland and woodlot on York University Keele Campus. The temperature was around 18 degrees Celsius with moderate cloud coverage and light winds.

The objective of the experiment was to observe the frequency of birds and their species in the designated areas.

The experiment was replicated 10 times in total, 5 times in the grassland and 5 times in the woodlot. In order to complete the experiment a 15 foot transect measuring tape was laid randomly throughout the grassland or woodlot. After the transect tape had been laid, the experimenters recorded the total frequency of birds sighted, the species of the birds, an estimate of how far from the transect the bird(s) appeared and the wind speed at the time each bird was sighted. Each trial was conducted for 5 minutes. To obtain the species name, a bird identification key was used. The wind speed was calculated by referring to the Beaufort scale, which aids in judging the speed of wind depending on observed conditions. The table used for this experiment measured wind speed in miles per hour.
