Effect of HGF on gut microbiota in mice with periodontitis

Multiple studies have accumulated evidence indicating that periodontitis can disrupt the balance of intestinal flora, ultimately impacting systemic health. Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) is a multifunctional molecule known to worsen the severity of periodontitis. However, the precise effects of HGF on the intestinal microbiota, especially in the context of periodontitis, have remained unclear. So we conducted a comprehensive 16S rRNA analysis, which revealed that HGF significantly altered the composition and distribution of intestinal flora in mice with chronic periodontitis.
