Gay Community Periodic Survey: Canberra 2000

The aim of this survey was to gather data on levels of safe and unsafe sexual practice in a broad cross-sectional sample of gay and homosexually active men. Men were recruited at four gay community events held in Canberra in 2000. The survey included questions on anal intercourse and oral sex, the use of condoms, the nature of sexual relationships, HIV testing and serostatus, aspects of social attachment to the gay community and a range of demographic items including sexual identity, age, education, occupation and ethnicity. Kind of Data: Survey. Time Dimensions: Repeated cross-sectional study. Sample Population: 350 gay and homosexually-active men from Canberra. Sampling Procedures: Participants were recruited at a number of gay community events in Canberra: Fair Day, one gay community site and two gay community events. 407 men were asked to complete the survey and 350 did so.
