Mead's Quarry (Knoxville, TN) Metagenomic Survey

The raw metagenomic libraries included within were generated by graduate students enrolled in MICR 669 "Advanced Techniques in Field Microbiology" offered by the Microbiology Department at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Briefly, this course was designed and implemented by Brittany N. Zepernick to address knowledge and curriculum gaps within the University's graduate curriculum. This endeavor was funded by an SEC Emerging Scholar Fellowship to BNZ. Graduate students designed an experiment to sample the vertical water column of a local recreational quarry (Mead's Quarry, Knoxville, TN, March 2024) that had been previously reported to have turned "pink" in the winter-spring of 2022.
