Germany — Elxleben — Flood situation on 3 June 2013 — Area affected, SB — P04

Persistent rainfall has led to severe floods in many parts of Germany in recent days. The local forces are supported by the Federal Police, the Bundeswehr and the Technical Relief Agency. Between Elxleben and Walschleben broke on 1 June 2013 despite increased protective measures by sandbags of the Gera dam. The water surfaces shown in the map were derived using TerraSAR-X images from June 3, 2013. The background is a mosaic of RapidEye archive data. Please note that the flood situation in urban areas and under vegetation cover may not be fully detected due to radar geometry. This product was created within the framework contract “ZKI-DE” between the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) and the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
