• The 2026 Kaesong Intangible Physical Heritage Urgent Safeguarding Project: Oral History and Technical Verification of Subak and Mindung Ssireum

This paper presents the documentation and academic findings of "The 2026 Kaesong Intangible Physical Heritage Urgent Safeguarding Project." Due to the geopolitical division of the Korean Peninsula spanning over eight decades, the regional physical culture and traditional martial practices of the northern provinces—specifically the historic city of Kaesong—face an imminent threat of permanent loss. In a joint collaborative effort encompassing governmental, academic, and field institutional entities, this project successfully recorded and digitally archived the comprehensive oral histories and physical demonstrations of Elder Lee Sang-eun (Aged 94), a pre-war Kaesong native. The investigation focuses on the documentation of three interconnected communal physical traditions: Subak (traditional striking techniques), Mindung Ssireum (the historical, beltless variant of northern Korean wrestling), and traditional archery/communal games (Seokjeon).
