This collection contains data collected during mangrove-mudflat campaign in Guyana, during the PhD Thesis project of Uwe Best. It is being made public both to act as supplementary data for publications and the final PhD thesis document, as well as to allow for open usage by other researchers in their own work.<br><br>Suspended sediment concentrations were collected using the optical backscatter sensors (OBSs) which were validated using field water samples. These were collected at two of the measurement locations (MB3 and MB5). For this campaign, two OBSs were used, T9012 and T9011. Both were tested and calibrated prior to use by Nortek after which the relations dictated by the calibration certificate (for the respective instrument) were be applied.<br>Standard turbidity data in NTU values may then be calibrated to suspended sediment concentration (mg/l) using suspended sediment concentration data determined from the filtration of water samples. Suspended-sediment concentrations typically exceeded 1 g/l with a maximum of 60 g/l. Field water samples were then used validate the instrument measurements (where the maximum capacity of the OBSs were often exceed).<br><br>

本数据集收录了乌维·贝斯特(Uwe Best)博士论文项目期间,在圭亚那开展红树林潮滩科考航次所采集的数据。本数据集公开的目的,一是为相关学术论文及最终博士学位论文提供补充数据,二是供其他研究人员在其研究工作中开放使用。 研究采用光学后向散射传感器(Optical Backscatter Sensors, OBSs)采集悬浮泥沙浓度数据,并通过现场水样对传感器进行校准验证。用于校准的现场水样于MB3与MB5两个测量点位采集。本次科考共使用两台OBS设备,型号分别为T9012与T9011。两台设备均在使用前由诺泰克(Nortek)完成测试与校准,后续将依据对应仪器的校准证书所载明的校准关系开展数据处理。 可通过水样过滤得到的悬浮泥沙浓度数据,将以浊度单位(NTU)计量的标准浊度数据校准为以毫克每升(mg/l)为单位的悬浮泥沙浓度。本次采集的悬浮泥沙浓度普遍超过1克每升(g/l),最高值可达60 g/l。后续通过现场水样对仪器测量结果进行验证——在此过程中,OBS设备的测量上限时常被超出。
