Detailed rock sampling for K-Ar and Rb-Sr geochronological dating studies of the Rennick and Matusevich Glacier region: GANOVEX V

The GANOVEX V Expedition (German Antarctic North Victoria Land Expedition) was carried out aboard the M.V. Polar Queen, research vessel. The area visited was the Oates Land Coast. Detailed rock sampling was done for K-Ar and Rb-Sr geochronological studies in the Rennick and Matusevich Glacier regions. 189 samples were collected along a low altitude east-west profile in the lower Rennick Glacier region and a vertical profile in the Pomerantz Tableland, USARP Mountains. The samples were hoped to provide data to extend the published K-Ar age patterns at various depths within the North Victoria Land geological terranes. Extensive sampling was done of high grade Wilson Group gneisses and Barg Group low grade metasediments in the Matusevich Glacier area, northern Oates Land in order to study the earliest metamorphic history of the Wilson terrain by Rb-Sr and K-Ar dating techniques.
