Dataset: Evaluating the Outcome of a Biosimilar Insulin Switch Programme

This is the underlying dataset for the article entitled "Evaluating the Outcome of a Biosimilar Insulin Switch Programme".

It shows how the relative share of the reference product and biosimilar (for insulin aspart pre-filled pens, cartridges and vials) changed over time following the implementation of a biosimilar insulin switch programme in an integrated care system in northern England. The relative share of the each product was calculated by dividing monthly expenditure by the NHS list price for each product (available from https://dmd-browser.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/). Prescribing expenditure was extracted from The Bennett Institute for Applied Data Science's OpenPrescribing database (available from openPrescribing.net).

Overall the data shows an increase in the share of the biosimilar but this was limited to certain delivery devices and varied by sub-location within the integrated care system.
