高程数据可对地形与地表进行精细化描述。此类数据通过机载激光扫描或航空影像匹配生成点云的方式构建。针对不同应用需求，点云的密度（单位：点/平方米）存在差异。基于此类点云，可生成地形栅格格式的数字地形模型（Digital Terrain Model，DTM）与地表栅格格式的数字表面模型（Digital Surface Model，DOM）。高程数据可对地形与地表进行精细化描述。
