Dataset from the paper "Productive restoration planning in the irrigated drylands: Soil salinity, texture, and moisture to guide reforestation plans". The objective of this paper is to identify potential sites for reforestation in a sector of the south-central oasis of San Juan (Argentina). To that end, we modelled data derived from satellite imagery to predict potential biomass accumulation based on the productivity of the experimental plots and their initial soil conditions. Potential sites for reforestation were identified based on their soil salinity levels and the ability to sustain the highest values of forest biomass. We evaluated an extensive set of bands derived from satellite images, either directly or transformed into spectral indices, to detect soil conditions: soil salinity, texture, and moisture.
