Wk4 Sweeper Data

The following sweeping net dataset experiment was conducted at York University's Stong pond grasslands on September 28, 2015, in rainy conditions. Using transect tape, a distance of 40 meters was measured out on the short grass (lawn grass). Using the sweeping nets, a back and forth swining motion was used approximately every 2 meters for a total of 20 sweeps for the whole duration of the transect. The time to get from one side of the transect to the other was set at 45 seconds to ensure all datasets were controlled. After each sweep, the nets were closed off to prevent any organisms from jumping out or flying, and were observed through the netting, after counting through the net the top was opened the organisms were counted again to make certain the counting was reliable. These organisms were recorded for their total number of organisms caught in the net as well as the number ofreconganizable taxonomical units. The organisms were then dumped out and the transect tape moved to another area to count again the sweeping data. There was a total of five transects used for the short grass and five transects used for the tall grass.
