The focal point of the current study is the crystal chemistry of the syngenite, gorgeyite and polyhalite minerals and their structural behaviour in conditions of both high pressure and low temperatures. The low temperature experiments are designed to yield the necessary data to complete and supplement a comprehensive study of the behaviour of these minerals over a wide range of temperatures and pressures. The proposed experimental plan centers on the study of single-crystal samples of these minerals, using a diamond anvil cells and helium as the pressure transmitting medium.
