Banana (Musa sp.) is an important edible fruit, contributing towards global food security. Many cultivars are seed-sterile, with asexually-driven evolution resulting in a restricted genetic base lacking resistance to pests and diseases. This study describes the characterization of the root transcriptome in Musa acuminata genotypes 4297-06 (AA) and Cavendish Grande Naine (CAV) (AAA) during early compatible interactions with the endoparasitic root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita.
