Approaches to Triosmium Carbonyl Cluster Compounds Derived from Benzophenone Imine. Characterization of Terminal Imino, Bridging Amido, and Orthometalated Imino Derivatives

The cluster complexes [Os3H(μ-H)(HNCPh2)(CO)10] (1), [Os3(μ-H)(μ-HN−CHPh2)(CO)10] (2), [Os3(μ-H)(μ-HN−CHPh2)(HNCPh2)(CO)9] (3), and [Os3(μ-H){η2-HNCPh(C6H4)}(CO)10] (4) have been obtained by
treatment of [Os3(μ-H)2(CO)10] and/or [Os3(MeCN)2(CO)10] with benzophenone imine. These compounds are
unusual examples of metal clusters containing terminal
imino (1, 3), bridging amido (2, 3), and orthometalated
(chelating) imino (4) ligands derived from an N-unsubstituted organic imine.
