A novel strategy was proposed to enhance the production of acetic acid. The acetic acid yield increased by 23.11% after gas self-circulation. Homoacetogens more competitive than conventional acetogenic bacteria.Genes involved in glycolysis and pyruvate metabolism were significantly upregulated. Wood Ljungdahl pathway enhancement enriched acidogenic metabolic networks.
