Data from Swedish research councils - funding agencies - on grant applications and grants, data on scholarly performance (bibliometrics), and data on career (professor competence achieved) for 2,727 Ph.D. in medical and natural science that published a dissertation between 1985 and 1994. We follow their career until 2020. In a first analysis, we evaluate potential gender disparities in grant allocation using large-scale application data based on project registers held by Swedish funding agencies. The results of this analysis feed into the subsequent analysis – time to a professorship – where we study the indirect impact of the grant allocation on the promotion to a professor.
