Understanding Corrosion and Human Body Fluid-assisted Stress Corrosion Cracking of Zn Alloys (ZnCuTi and ZnCuMn) and a Lean Mg Alloy (ZX10) for Biodegradable Implants Applications

This PhD project aims to study the corrosion and stress-corrosion cracking (SCC) behaviour of Zn- and Mg-based biodegradable alloys in a physiological environment, with or without organic components. Biodegradable alloys are attractive for their use as temporary implants, (such as screws, plates and wires), Mg- and Zn alloys fulfil such requirements. However, these alloys are susceptible to corrosion and SCC, which is investigated in this study.
