The SensorThings API (STA) is an application programming interface developed by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) for the management of sensors and actuators on the Internet of the thing (IoT). While IoT network protocols such as MQTT and HTTP address the ability of various IoT systems to exchange information, SensorThings API addresses the ability of various IoT systems to use and understand the information exchanged. The SensorThings API offers an open, spatial and uniform way to connect IoT devices, data and applications over the Internet. Within the scope of this interface, two main functions can be assigned, which can be divided into the so-called “sensing part” and “tasking part”. The acquisition part (“sensing part”) offers a standard methodology for managing or retrieving observations and metadata from heterogeneous IoT sensor systems. With the interface available here, the first part of the STA (“Tasking”) is implemented. Currently, there is an instance of the SensorThings API in LGV, i.e. a sensor service (see references), which contains all sensor data. The FROST server from Fraunhofer is used for this purpose, which is a complete and open-source implementation of the OGC SensorThings API Part1:Sensing. In addition to the HTTP protocol, the MQTT protocol is also supported, providing a way to publish and subscribe to sensor data. The following actions can be performed with the interface: — Search for all sensor data provided on the FROST @-@ server — Publish and subscribe to observation values using MQTT @-@ Broker — Edit, delete and recapture sensor data (authentication required) The sensor data contained in the FROST server is the responsibility of the data holders (see contact person for the data sets).
