The "Livestock and Range Research Laboratory - Basal Vegetation
Cover" database contains basal vegetation cover data which were
collected during early and mid summers using a pantograph. Data
were collected from 43 permanent square meter plots which were
distributed throughout the pastures of the Livestock and Range
Research Laboratory in Miles City, Montana. Information was
recorded on a total of 142 different plant species during the 25
years of data collection.
The data from the Basal Vegetation Database are used to study
the effects of grazing intensity and precipitation on changes in
basal vegetation cover.

Collection Methodology: Basal cover data were collected
during early and mid summer using a pantograph. 43 permanent
square meter plots were distributed throughout the pastures. A
total of 142 species were recorded throughout the 25-year period.
