Religion-based financial exclusion in OIC economies: a harmonised economy-year dataset from the Global Findex, 2011-2024

A harmonised economy-year dataset measuring the share of adults without a financial-institution account who cite religious reasons, built from five rounds of the World Bank Global Findex microdata (2011, 2014, 2017, 2021, 2024). It contains 709 economy-round cells across 40 fields, with a flagged balanced frame of 34 OIC member states observed in every round in which the outcome exists, and a hand-coded Islamic banking regime variable for those economies sourced to central bank and regulator documents. The deposit contains no individual-level records: the Findex microdata are not redistributed. SHA-256 checksums allow users to verify they hold the same source files this pipeline was built on. A decisions log documents 45 numbered construction judgements. Estimates are conditional associations, not identified effects. The design is repeated cross-sections rather than a panel of individuals, and the religion item is asked only of the unbanked.
