Digital Archive from Archaeological Evaluation, Excavation and Building Recording at Guildford Fire Station, Surrey, 2013

This collection comprises reports, site photographs, a CAD site drawing, spreadsheet data and site records from archaeological investigations at Guildford Fire Station, Surrey. Work was carried out by Oxford Archaeology between February and October 2013. A programme of Historic Building Recording was undertaken, recording the principal fire station building, a 'smokehouse' and a multi-storey training tower. The excavation revealed a substantial scatter of worked flint assigned to either the Cresswellian or Federmesser industries of the Lateglacial period. The assemblage was found in an exceptional state of preservation and is likely to represent the in situ remains of a Later upper Paleolithic campsite.
