Women Grinding Corn, Malawi, ca. 1914-1918

Black and white lantern slide showing an older village woman grinding corn with female adolescents and young girls. The corn is ground using a large pestle and mortar. A goose can be seen in the background. The older woman and three of the girls wear wrap dresses, whilst an older adolescent girl wears a dress with short sleeves. This slide comes from a set on the activities of the King’s African Rifles battalions in Nyasaland. It was originally held by the Church of Scotland, and generated by J.W MacKay.
