Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route / Balmedie to Tipperty. Digital Appendices

This archive presents Appendices 1 - 4 of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route/Balmedie to Tipperty Monograph, published with Oxbow Books; 'The Land was Forever: 15,000 Years in North-East Scotland'. The AWPR/B-T project comprised the construction of 58km of new road around the western periphery of Aberdeen, along with associated improvements to existing road junctions and construction of ancillary structures. Archaeological trial trenching and mitigation excavations were undertaken between 2013 and 2014, prior to construction commencing, and a range of archaeological works undertaken in relation to the construction phase between 2015 and 2016. The works revealed a landscape rich in archaeological remains, with a total of nine individual sites identified, spanning the Late Upper Palaeolithic through to the post-medieval period. Discoveries of particular importance include the identification of the Late Upper Palaeolithic in north-east Scotland, the presence of in situ lithics scatters of Mesolithic date, discovery of a relatively high-altitude Mesolithic camp, evidence of Neolithic domestic activity, a possible Chalcolithic timber alignment, extensive evidence of Bronze Age settlement and associated burial practices, and the presence of a previously unknown Roman temporary camp. Full analysis and publication of the results of the works have been undertaken and are available as an Oxbow monograph. Due to the scale of the discoveries, the results of the technical analyses had to be synthesised. In an effort to ensure the data is openly accessible the full technical reports are presented here.

本AWPR/B-T项目（阿伯丁西部绕行公路/巴尔梅迪至蒂珀蒂）包含沿阿伯丁西部外围修建58公里新道路的工程，同时配套升级现有道路交叉口，并修建附属设施。工程开工前的2013年至2014年间，团队开展了考古试掘（archaeological trial trenching）与保护性发掘（mitigation excavations）工作；2015年至2016年的施工阶段，又开展了一系列相关考古作业。
此次考古作业揭示出一处遗存丰富的考古景观，共确认9处独立遗址，年代跨度从旧石器时代晚期直至后中世纪时期。其中具有特殊学术价值的发现包括：苏格兰东北部旧石器时代晚期遗存的确认、中石器时代原位（in situ）石器散布点的发现、一处海拔相对较高的中石器时代营地遗迹、新石器时代家庭活动的考古证据、一处疑似铜石并用时代的木质线性排布遗迹、大量青铜时代定居点与相关丧葬习俗的遗存证据，以及一处此前未被记录的罗马临时军营遗址。
本次作业的全部分析结果与研究成果已完成，并以牛轭书局专题报告的形式正式出版。鉴于此次发现的规模庞大，需对技术分析结果进行综合整合。为确保数据可公开获取，本档案一并收录全部技术报告。
