Research and development; staff, SBI 2008 and company size, 2011-2012

This table contains data on R & D staff and expenditure on own research and development activities. The figures are given for the business sector. The R & D is carried out with its own staff in the Netherlands. Outsourced R & D is not included in this table. As of reporting year 2011, Dutch R & D figures have changed significantly compared to previous years. Important reasons for changing the Dutch R & D figures are: — A new version of the Eurostat Regulation from the reporting year 2011. — Changes in the CBS business register. The following changes have been made: — Expanding the R & D definition. — Changes in the processing of the R & D research. — Adding the R & D expenses of companies with fewer than 10 employees. — Reducing the total benefits of higher education institutions as a basis for R & D expenditures. As a result of an increase of 26 percent in total expenditure on own R & D activities of all companies in 2011. Data available from 2011 to 2012. Status of the figures: The figures for 2011 are final. The figures for 2012 are provisional. As this table has been discontinued, the data will no longer be definitive.
