CryoSeek

CryoSeek represents a structure first paradigm for the discovery of biological entities. The CryoSeek strategy employs cryo electron microscopy (cryo EM) as a discovery tool to identify previously unknown biological entities directly isolated from natural environments or native resources. This approach is further integrated with AI facilitated computational tools and bioinformatic analyses to assess their potential origins and biological functions. Remarkably, CryoSeek has uncovered numerous glycofibril structures, which have not been identified before. These findings suggest that CryoSeek may serve as a powerful strategy to explore the “dark matter” of the biological world. The CryoSeek Database compiles the micrographs, 3D reconstructions, and atomic models of these biological “dark matters,” providing valuable resources to deepen our understanding of the natural world and to lay a foundation for the rational design of novel biomaterials.
