Period-specific information Scope of regional gross domestic product Regional GDP estimates for 2000–2019 are from National accounts (industry production and investment): Year ended March 2019. We balanced data for this period using the national accounting supply-use framework. For most industries, geographic unit level data is used to allocate national GDP to regions. Provisional estimates 2020 Final unit data was unavailable for 2020 provisional estimates. We used available data sources with a regional dimension (such as linked employer-employee data (LEED)) to derive provisional regional GDP estimates for 2020. As some methods and data sources had lower quality than using unit level data, we have provided only provisional estimates for the region totals. Revisions We incorporated revisions to national industry totals. These revisions affect the national totals that are allocated to regions. See 2020 national accounts improvements preview for more information. We updated regional allocation proportions for 2018 with new input data, which includes updated annual enterprise survey data and LEED. This update affects the proportional allocation to regions, which results in revisions to all regions for 2018. en-NZ
