Effects of increasing phenyl acid concentrations on the AD process of a multiple-biogas-reactor system

The aim of this study was to i) establish six parallel and semi-continuous biogas reactors with a stable biogas production rate, ii) subsequently feed three of those reactors with the aromatic compounds phenylacetate (PAA), phenylpropionate (PPA) and phenylbutyrate (PBA, iii) examine the effect of slow or fast additions of phenyl acids to the respective biogas reactors, iv) to monitor biogas performance biochemically and to v) the molecular biologically analyse microbial community shifts during phenyl acid exposure.
