We measured the charge radii and nuclear moments of exotic cobalt (Z = 27) isotopes using the collinear laser spectroscopy method. From these measurements, we extracted the charge radii of (^{54−59})Co and the isomer shift of (^{58g,m})Co. In addition, we investigated the role of proton-neutron pairing by obtaining the isomer shift between the (I = 0, T = 1) ground and (I = 4, T = 0) isomeric states in the self-conjugate (^{54})Co, together with the electromagnetic moments of the isomer. The combined data set allowed for the investigation of the evolution of the ground-state properties in proton-rich isotopes just below the (Z = 28) magic proton shell closure. Furthermore, this experiment paved the way to perform laser spectroscopy on the proton-emitting isomer in (^{53})Co and, for the first time, provided insight into the nuclear electromagnetic moments and charge distribution of such a state.
