Impact of oxalate on stone formation in mice

To address the shortcomings of currently available in vivo models of stone disease we developed a consumable diet-induced hyperoxaluria model that closely mimics the natural development of CaOx crystal deposition and allows for a more accurate study of the microbiome in and associated changes in oxalate absorption, hyperoxaluria, and CaOx crystal deposition. In addition, this model can easily be adapted to assess the impact of manipulating microbiome composition via diet or pharmaceuticals and the overall impact of novel treatments on oxalate absorption and CaOx crystal formation.
