VPRS 16670 Inward Correspondence, Alphabetical

This series comprises letters sent to the Richmond Council from ratepayers, contractors, government departments, municipalities and other organisations and individuals, and relate to a wide range of matters. Occasionally other items have been attached to or filed with the correspondence, such as maps and plans, reports, invoices and receipts, or letter book copies of outward correspondence. On each letter, usually on the back, is a precis written by council staff at the time. Information in the precis includes the date (usually the date of the letter, but sometimes the date of receipt, filing, or the date the matter was resolved), the sender and a summary of the contents. Further notes have often been added regarding the action taken and the reply sent.Each file covers a period of a few months to half a year, with the contents arranged by the use of alphabetical cardboard dividers and the correspondence filed according to the author's surname or business name. However there are a number of files which have no dividers. The files are arranged chronologically by month and year.
