VPRS 11853 Estray - Contributions to proposed History of the Victorian Railways

This series is an estray purchased by the Public Record Office Victoria in 1986.It is apparent from the records that in 1922 the Railways Commissioners arranged for the preparation of a history of the Victorian Railways. The PROV was advised that in July 1922 there was a paragraph about the proposed history in The Argus newspaper. In circular memorandum 3732 from G.H. Sutton, Secretary for Railways, staff were requested to contribute to the project.This series consists of some of these contributions and copies of outward correspondence from the Secretary for Railways. Much of the outward correspondence acknowledges the receipt of the contributions or concerns the return of photographs and other material to the owners. It is not known whether the history was ever published. Outward correspondence dated 1925 noted that other work had delayed the completion of the history but that following the recent appointment of an Assistant Publicity Officer, it was hoped that the work would be completed and published at an early date.
