Appendix 1 Evidence base for Guy Healy Chapter, Short Series of Europe: a subcultural circuit of popular and critically acclaimed filmmaking, 1998-2024, in Streaming Europe

In terms of methodology, to map European short series of popular and critical acclaim, I established a new database (Appendix 1) using the rankings of the Web Series World Cup (WSWC), Bassaget & Burkholder’s Short, narrative & serialized (2019) book, interviews with festival directors, festival archives, theatrical release posters, and the IMDb and Filmfreeway databases. Crucially, so many web-series used YouTube to break-out their first seasons, their public-facing channel information proved indispensable.
