People of Color in the First Baptist Church of Providence, Rhode Island to 1868

Based on church records to 1869, the following dataset includes all identified people of color in the First Baptist Church of Providence, RI. The First Baptist was one of the white churches that helped to launch and sustain the African Union. For the black community, the African Union Meeting was a place of their own, where they could worship as they pleased without white supervision and domination.
