The views and opinions of authors expressed herein do not necessarily state or reflect those of the United States Government or any agency thereof.About the Data Center Modeling LibraryThe data center modeling library (DML) is a collection of component and example systems for the electromagnetic transient (EMT) analysis program PSCAD/EMTDC. These models are intended for use in studies concerned with the impacts of data centers on the grid. Currently, the DML includes 30 component definitions (contained within a component library file) and 6 example cases, 3 of which represent aggregated versions of common data center designs. Included with the DML is a technical report that discusses data center power systems from the perspective of EMT modeling and provides detailed documentation on the proper use and configuration of the provided components and models. This report is also available on osti.gov. These models are not yet validated against real-world data. They are currently being evaluated by utilities, data center developers, and equipment suppliers for data centers. A revision is planned for late Summer or early Fall of 2026 that captures feedback and improvements made from this process.Currently, these models are in an alpha state, meaning that they are feature incomplete and likely contain bugs and errors—they should not be used as a basis for making engineering decisions unless further enhanced and validated by a qualified engineer. The purpose of releasing the models in this state is to accelerate industry development of accurate and consistent modeling by providing a “straw man” which can be iteratively improved as industry knowledge develops. If you are interested in sharing information that can be used to make the models more complete or accurate, please contact the authors:brett.ross@pnnl.govjim.follum@pnnl.govThese models were developed using PSCAD 5.0.2 and have not been tested using older versions of the software. These files are distributed under Creative Commons 4.0 – Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) the details of which may be found here."
