Timor Sea sediment core and surface sediment grab sample data (Western Australia and Northern Territory)

This dataset contains location data for surface sediment samples and cores from the Timor Sea, collected between November 1996 and June 2005. Associated datasets contain geochemistry and radiochemistry data for these samples. 1. Determine the ecological importance of submarine seeps in the Timor Sea.2. Estimate the flux of greenhouse gases from the seafloor to the atmosphere.3. Determine variations in century and millennial scale burial rate of carbon (organic and carbonate), metals, and other signals of climate change and ENSO events.4. Test hypotheses about interactions of seep oil and methane with biota, and how this effects biodiversity in this region.5. Test geological predictions of the locations of submarine vents.6. Map and discover trends in locations of submarine seeps on the seafloor.
